Russian base oil exports in May grows 4%

Total Russia rail exports in May slightly increased 3,6% as refineries are coming back from heavy maintenance round in March-April and peak season demand eases.

The most dramatic growth (47%) happened in Baltic exports – from 30,09kt to 44,16kt. This is the highest number for May since at least 2015.

The exports from the Black Sea dropped 32% – from 19,68kt in April to 10,33kt in May.

Export of Lukoil’s refinery in Volgograd keep decreasing since April – this time the difference with the previous month is 38% because of ongoing switch from Group I to Group II at this refinery. After starting of Group II base oils production, Lukoil shipped only 7kt of Group I base oils in May. As a result, there were no base oil river exports in Russia in May. This is the first case since at least 2015 – usually river exports stop from December till March and continue from April on.

The only refinery that increased their exports in May was the one in Perm – the exports were 27% higher than in April, most of the volume ended up in the Baltic.

Russia exports Group I, light grades of Group II and Group III base oils such as VHVI-4, VHVI-6 and VHVI-8. For base oils inquiries please contact our sales team through the form on our website or via email info@legionoilandgas.com
