Legion Oil & Gas LLC’ report on Russian base oil exports in March was quoted by Lubes’N’Greases, an independent media about the lubricants industry. Here are the key takeaways:
- Russian base oil exports increased 15% in March compared to the previous month
- In the first quarter of 2021 this number is 3% higher than in the first quarter of 2020
- The increase was driven mostly by Lukoil
- The biggest growth in the March rail shipments was at the ports of Kaliningrad, Russia and Liepaja, Latvia.
Lubes’N’Greases also published a comment of Legion Oil & Gas LLC’ director Denis Varaksin explaining the March exports rise:
“The increase to the West was caused by extreme tightness in the base oils market, especially in [solvent] neutral grades starting from SN350, SN400 and SN500 and to heavy grades, such as SN900, SN1200 and bright stock, or BS-150. When key Western suppliers struggle to offer any product on the spot, Russia remains one of the few outlets where base oils are still available for spot purchase,” Varaksin said.
